Do u have to tip the delivery person even though they charge a delivery fee?

There's a chinese place that is 2 seconds away from me.I don't tip the delivery driver cuz the place is only 2 seconds away from me, and they already charge a $1.00 delivery fee.I have given a tip and that's only cuz i had a big order, that is the only time i give a tip.Besides it's not like the delivery driver had a long drive, if they did i would've definitely given a tip, other than that i don't. your opinions? No rude answers please!Do u have to tip the delivery person even though they charge a delivery fee?
well that's a type of job that gets paid hourly and through tips. i used to be a bartender so therefore no matter what kind of service i always leave a decent tip, i know what it feels like to live off ur tips.
Usually the restaurant takes that delivery fee because it is a fee for a "convenience" that the restaurant offers. So the restaurant is getting paid just for "offering" the service. The delivery person should get a tip because he is actually "performing" the service. Make sense? Otherwise, put on your shoes and go get it yourself.Do u have to tip the delivery person even though they charge a delivery fee?
I say that $1 isn't a lot. Think of it more as a convenience charge. Your food comes to you, no cooking or driving needed. I think an additional $1 or $2 as a tip should be acceptable.
It's not a matter of distance but convenience .. if you were providing an equal convenience to people, would you expect a little financial consideration? I mean, really, at the price of gas right now, the $1 the restaurant pays barely covers the cost of starting the engine.

Wasn't it worth a couple bucks not having to leave the house and go pickup your order?Do u have to tip the delivery person even though they charge a delivery fee?
Here's some things that factor into it:

You already said the distance from your house is very short, so we can skip that.

Does the delivery person have to walk a long way to get to your door (like walking up several flights of steps to an apartment)? If yes, then I think that's worth $1 tip.

Are your orders hard to carry, as far as how heavy and clumsy they are? If yes, I think that's worth $1 tip.

It sounds like you either think it should be nothing, or next to nothing. I would just recommend giving them $1 tip every other time (since it would be kind of silly to give 50 cents.) If you think even that's too much, then don't give them anything.
Give the poor driver a break and give them a couple of bucks. They saved you from having to get in your car and drive, right?
The delivery charge does not go to the driver. If you can't pick up your order, it's for your convenience that it is being delivered and you should tip.
Do you really want to earn a poor reputation from some one who is handling your food?...Would you like a side of spit with your chinese food?

I always tip welll because I don't want them to handle my food with no care
Technically I guess you don't, but this is always a gray area. When I was at college, I'd order food and they'd get out of the car, and sometimes into the Dorm, and it was often their fifth trip to the dorms, no lie. And often it was late at night, maybe 11 or so, so I would give a tip, maybe two-five dollars or so, depending on how much I ordered. Because I figured it this way, if I had to trek out at night, maybe in the snow to some dorm to give some kid their food, I'd want a tip. In your case, it's different, maybe give a dollar or a dollar and half? Idk, it might be easier to just pick it up lol
I guess I would still tip, but if they're that close, I wonder why you call for delivery? If you get it yourself, you can save whatever tip you might give plus the extra dollar.
A lot of times the delivery fee the restaurant charges doesn't go to the driver. It usually used to purchase the signs they have to have on the vehicle they drive and the bags/containers that keeps the food warm while they are being delivered. So I would say give the driver a tip they have to deal with weather conditions and traffic to deliver your food so you dont have to go and pick it up.
It's still nice to tip a dollar or two
I think you should still tip the driver. He's probably depending on tips and not getting a dime of the delivery fee. I know that Papa John's does not give their drivers any of the delivery fee they collect.
here is a tip for them... feel free to use this
