because they don't come to our door and give us our mail
"mail delivery people" are government employees with LOTS of benefits.
Pizza/chinese delivery people get paid crap. Why don't we tip mail delivery people but we tip pizza/chinese delivery people?
Because "mail delivery people" are paid better than food delivery people. You also pay for shipping costs which cover some of their salary.
Too much tipping expected these days. I went to Subway, and they had a tip jar there. What exactly am I supposed to tip them for ? People expect to be tipped simply for doing their job. To answer your question, I dont really see the difference between the two.Why don't we tip mail delivery people but we tip pizza/chinese delivery people?
I do tip my mail person on holidays.... but i think the reason why we normally don't is due to them working for the government
The 1st time the pizza guy brings me a bill of over $200 buck's I'll kick him out too.
Because they are civil servants with great pay %26amp; even better benefits. Besides, I do tip mine at Christmas.........
Mail delivery people are paid a wage that doesn't account for tips. Food delivery people are expected to get tips, therefore their pay is much less per hour, just like many other other food servers.
I don't think government employees are allowed to take tips. Plus, pizza and chinese deliverers make far less money than postal workers.
because it is their everyday job and they are already getting paid ...also because we usually give them a nice christmas bonus or gift for their services all year round...I don't think the pizza boy make that much..and its NOT daily I HOPE...
That's a good point. The pizza delivery people get payed about minimum wage, nothing more. The mailmen get payed 12-15 dollars an hour, and they are told to give any money they get to the government. So why do YOU think?
I think it's because Pizza and Chinese delivery people live off of the tips. But mail delivery people's money doesn't come from getting tips. Besides, alot of times, it's just junk mail. I doesn't make sense to pay someone for bringing you junk mail does it?
because i didn't order any mail. who asked him/her to bring me mail? it's mostly junk. if it's something i want, ups usually delivers it
You are suppose to on christmas
I'll put a fruitcake in the mail box during the holidays. Does that count?
The mail delivery system is an established part of American tradition with unions and regulatory commissions assigned to govern their actions. We know that the mail will be delivered and we have control over how fast it will be delivered to us based on what service package we purchase. However, the pizza delivery guy is fairly autonomous. The service that he delivers is dictated by him. The tip is the only motivation the consumer can offer him for satisfactory service.
why would i tip someone that keeps bringing me bills? besdies, they get paid enough as it is
Well, the mail is a government run agency, so I think they are probably paid better and have better benefits. Additionally, mail is something that automatically happens. The pizza/Chinese food/etc is something you requested and was instantly brought to you! Additionally, some people always found it at the very minimum customary to leave something for the mail carrier for instance at the holidays. My grandmother, always bought something (food based) for the UPS delivery person because she so frequently had packages delivered during the year. I don't think most people do it for the regular every day mail man though!
Are you kidding me? My mailman hates to even get out of his little truck to bring me packages. If he cant get to my mailbox because of cars parked by the mailbox then he goes right on by my house. A boring job but pays very well. Hard job to get if you can pass the test. Its like a secret society to get into when you work at the post office. I have taken the test several times without passing. Imagine that. We can hire a idiot to be president but cant get a job working for the postal service. Somethings wrong with this country!
At this point Im voting for Bill Clinton to be the next first lady in the White House! I would vote for the Governator of California if they would let him run.
Life is short make yourself laugh a little!
Mail delivery people get paid very well, have full vacation time, sick leave, health benefits, government holidays off and get to use a USPS vehicle. Plus they normally don't knock at the door when they arrive, so there's usually not an opportunity to tip them.
Pizza/Chinese food delivery people, by contrast, get paid minimum wage, have no paid vacation time, no health benefits and have to use their own car, which they must pay to maintain. They also have to work on holidays where everyone else gets to sit home and spend time with their families.
This is not to say that we should not value our mail delivery people! They do an incredible (and often overlooked) service. But the purpose of tipping is compensation. Mail delivery people are compensated for their service by their place of employment, the USPS. Pizza delivery people are not compensated enough by their workplace, so they get tips.
I think it's because we (as customers) choose to have food delivered to us. The mail is supposed to be delivered to our homes unless a person rents a box at the post office.
1. My mail man does not come to my door and hand it to me.
2. Pizza and chinese will deliver at any time they are open.
3. I KNOW I'm gonna get my pizza or Chinese food when I'm
supposed to.
4. Mail personnel make TONS of money. Far more than some
of them are worth.
They don't tip me for doing my job, that's what I get PAID for.
Your mailman.
PS. I also make a bit more than the poor shmucks that deliver food to your palace.
I agree with "blueridgeliving" and also because...
My mailman intentionally screws with people in our complex putting the wrong mail in the wrong boxes if you piss him off.
